Champions Brondby get their title defence underway as the Danish Superliga kicks off this weekend. They’ll visit Aarhus, who finished third last season and could prove to be a stubborn host on the opening day.

17 – Aarhus v Brondby
Aarhus won the first of their regular Superliga encounters with Brondby last season 3-1 at home and then drew 1-1 away. When the league split into the championship play-offs, they drew 2-2 at Brondby, before Brondby won their final clash 2-1 away.
Aarhus finished third in the Danish Superliga last season. They’ve played three pre-season friendlies in June-July, lost 1-0 hosting Nordsjaelland, won 3-2 hosting Hobro and lost 1-0 away at Aalborg.
Defending champions Brondby have enjoyed a successful pre-season, following three wins with two draws in their five warm-up games.
61 Encounters (since 1998)
17 Aarhus wins
31 Brondby wins
13 Draws
28 – Norrkoping v Hacken
The teams met in the Svenska Cupen quarter-finals back in March. Hacken twice went behind, but came back to win 3-2.
Norrkoping have made a reasonable start to the season. Their three defeats in ten league matches were all away from home. They’ve won three and drawn two of their five games on home turf.
After failing to win any of their first seven league matches (4L, 3D), Hacken come into this in better shape with wins in their last three on the trot.
34 Encounters (since 1998)
14 Norrkoping wins
12 Hacken wins
8 Draws
30 – Brann v Mjoendalen
Mjoendalen did the double over Brann in Norway’s Eliteserien last season, winning 1-0 away and 2-0 at home.
Brann sit at the bottom of the table with just one win from their thirteen league matches, but draws with Lillestrom (1-1) and Tromso (1-1) in their last two home games could give them some hope of getting something from this encounter.
Mjoendalen won 3-0 hosting Haugesund last weekend, but have only earned 1-point in their last four away matches.
8 Encounters (since 2013)
0 Brann wins
6 Mjoendalen wins
2 Draws
31 – Haugesund v Valerenga
Haugesund have won five, drawn two and lost three of their last ten league encounters with Valerenga. Haugesund won 2-1 hosting the last meeting back in August last year.
Haugesund have been solid at home with four wins and a draw in their five league matches on home turf. They’ll be happy to return after losing 3-0 away at Mjoendalen last weekend.
Valerenga arrive unbeaten in their last six league matches, but four have ended in stalemates. They drew 2-2 hosting Lillestrom last weekend and could avoid defeat again visiting Haugesund.
28 Encounters (since 1998)
11 Haugesund wins
12 Valerenga wins
5 Draws
44 – Nashville SC v Chicago Fire
There has been just one competitive meeting between Chicago Fire and the relatively newly formed Nashville SC, it ended in a 1-1 draw in the MLS last season.
Seven of Nashville’s twelve MLS matches in the 2021 season have finished in stalemates. They picked up a well-earned point in a 2-2 draw hosting Atlanta last weekend.
Chicago Fire have been struggling in the Eastern Conference with seven defeats in twelve games, but could carry some momentum after claiming big victories over Atlanta (3-0) and Orlando (3-1) in their last two matches.
1 Encounter (since 2020)
0 Nashville SC wins
0 Chicago Fire wins
