The Premier League takes a short winter break, but international duties will keep plenty of top-flight stars busy in World Cup qualification in Asia and North/South America. There’s no rest for the English Football League and we’ve highlighted what we think will be some of the more competitive matches that have the potential to end in a draw.

3 – Derby v Birmingham

Derby have won seven of their last eleven Championship meetings with Birmingham, drawn two and lost two. Birmingham came out on top this season winning 2-0 at St Andrew’s back in September.

Derby have won four of their last five league matches at home and beat Sheffield United 2-0 in the latest. The Rams return to Pride Park after losing 2-1 away at Nottingham Forest.

Birmingham picked up their first win in eight matches with a 2-1 victory hosting Barnsley last weekend. They were heading for a 2-0 defeat hosting Peterborough on Tuesday, but scored in 85th and 88th minute to draw 2-2.

6 – Luton v Blackburn

Luton were 2-0 down 30-minutes into their visit to Blackburn back in September, but two goals from Luke Berry saw the Hatters come back to draw 2-2. Berry netted the equaliser in the 98th minute.

Luton lost 2-0 away at Sheffield United last weekend, but the Hatters beat Bristol City 2-1 on Tuesday and recorded their fourth win in five games.

Blackburn have won nine of their last twelve matches in Championship. They’ve drawn twice in that run of games and were beaten 2-0 at Hull in their last away game.

13 – AFC Wimbledon v Shrewsbury

Three of their last five encounters have ended in a draw, Shrewsbury came from behind to win 2-1 in the reverse fixture this season.

AFC Wimbledon are winless in their last seven League One matches, four of which have ended in a stalemate. They were beaten 2-0 hosting Ipswich in their midweek fixture.

Shrewsbury have drawn three of their last five league games, won one and lost one. They drew 0-0 away at Gillingham in their midweek fixture.

Conor Chaplin rescued a point for Ipswich with a 90th minute equaliser when the teams drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

Sheffield Wednesday have suffered three defeats in their last four league matches, but beat Plymouth 4-2 in their last home game and only narrowly lost 3-2 visiting Oxford United last weekend.

Ipswich made it four wins in five matches with a 2-0 victory at AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday.

Northampton are winless in four matches, but have drawn with promotion chasers Forest Green (1-1) and Sutton United (0-0) in their last two games.
