6 – Newcastle v Aston Villa

Newcastle beat Aston Villa 4-0 at St James’ Park last season and the Villans claimed a 3-0 victory when the teams met at Villa Park. They met for a pre-season friendly last month and drew 3-3.

Newcastle lost just two Premier League home games last season and secured Champions League football with a 4th place finish. The Magpies won 4-0 in a final warm-up match against Villarreal last weekend.

Aston Villa secured the Europa Conference League spot with a 7th place finish last season. They won 2-1 in a friendly away at Valencia last weekend.

14 – Preston v Sunderland

Sunderland won 3-0 visiting Preston in the Championship last season, but were held to a 0-0 draw when the teams met at the Stadium of Light.

In their opening game of the season Will Keane struck in the 86th minute to equalise for Preston in a 1-1 draw at Bristol City last weekend. On Tuesday they hosted League Two side Salford City in the first round of the EFL Cup and lost on penalties following a 2-2 draw.

Sunderland were reduced to 10-men in the 72nd minute and lost 2-1 hosting Ipswich in their Championship opener last weekend. The Black Cats also lost their first round EFL Cup tie midweek, after a 1-1 draw they were lost to Crewe on penalties.

18 – West Brom v Swansea

Swansea edged two narrow 3-2 victories in both Championship encounters with West Brom last season.

West Brom lost 2-1 away at Blackburn in their Championship opener last weekend and lost 2-1 visiting Stoke in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

Swansea had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw hosting Birmingham City last weekend, but a brace from Joel Piroe helped them to a 3-0 victory hosting Northampton in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

25 – Lincoln v Wycombe

Five of the last nine league encounters between Lincoln and Wycombe finished in a draw. This fixture finished 0-0 last season and the Imps won 2-0 away.
