Leicester vs Southampton FA Cup

Despite never winning the competition, Leicester City are bidding to reach the FA Cup final for the fifth time and make their first appearance since 1969. They’ll be confident after scoring an impressive 11 goals across their four wins in this season’s edition, whilst conceding only twice, although it might be playing on their mind that they’ve suffered defeat in their three previous matches at the new Wembley.

Even though Leicester have experienced two consecutive defeats coming into this one, Southampton need to be aware of the ‘Foxes’ dangerous attack as they’ve scored 2+ goals in four of their previous five competitive fixtures (W3, L2). They’ve been at their most dangerous across that run during the second half, where they netted ten of their 12 goals.

Opponents Southampton are also bidding to reach their fifth FA Cup final, but they’ll be hoping for more luck at this stage than they’ve had in the past – the ‘Saints’ have progressed in just two of their previous nine semi-final appearances. They won the last two H2H competition meetings with Leicester though, beating them 1-0 in 2006 and 2-0 in 2008.

Match underdogs here, they also kept a clean sheet in all four FA Cup wins this season, and a fifth shutout here would make them the first team to reach the final without conceding since Everton in 1966! However, after conceding 2+ goals in four of their previous five competitive games (W2, L3), that looks like a tall task.

Players to score: Leicester forward Kelechi Iheanacho has scored more FA Cup goals since 2015/16 than any other player (13) – two of his previous three came after the 75th minute. Southampton’s Nathan Redmond also enjoys this competition, and has contributed to seven goals in his last six tournament appearances (five goals, two assists).

Hot stat: Victors in the last H2H, Leicester have not beaten Southampton twice in the same season since 2011/12.

Prediction: Leicester [3] vs [0] Southampton
