Chelsea vs Brighton Premier League
With seven Premier League (PL) games to go, this game is of vital importance to both sides, but it’s Chelsea who will start in high spirits after recently beating Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup semi-final. They can now claim a top-four place with a win here, and are strong favourites after losing just one PL game under boss Thomas Tuchel (W7, D4, L1), whilst keeping a clean sheet in eight (66.67%).
Although Chelsea fell to a 5-2 defeat in their last home league game, don’t expect a repeat – the ‘Pensioners’ have lost back-to-back PL home games just twice in the Roman Abramovich-era (2011-). Furthermore, Chelsea have never fallen behind at any stage of a PL H2H (W6, D1).
Brighton & Hove Albion need a shock result if they are to alleviate relegation concerns. The ‘Seagulls’ are far from flying with just two wins from their last nine PL games (W2, D3, L4) although interestingly, the starting match favourite has a joint league-low win-rate of just 32.26% in Brighton’s PL games (W10, D12, L9).
Five of Brighton’s seven PL wins this season came on the road too, but whilst they scored a first-half opener in three of their last four league trips, they held on for victory just once (W1, D1, L2). Either way, a quick start could be on the cards – only two of Brighton’s 15 PL trips produced a goalless first half (HT: W6, D3, L6).
Players to score: In-form Chelsea man Christian Pulisic has scored as many goals in his last two PL games (three) as he did in 26 league appearances prior. Meanwhile, Danny Welbeck doubled his Brighton tally with two goals across his last three games, but his only strike vs Chelsea came back in 2011/12.
Hot stat: Brighton have a 100% losing rate away to Chelsea in competitive H2Hs (L6), and are yet to score at Stamford Bridge (14:0 aggregated score).
Prediction: Chelsea [2] vs [1] Brighton
