Chelsea vs Man City FA Cup

Thomas Tuchel could make history here by becoming the first German manager to reach an FA Cup final. With no Russian linesman in sight at Wembley, the omens are good too for the Chelsea boss, especially given that the Londoners have won seven of their last eight competition semi-finals, although that one defeat did come against Manchester City in 2013. Victory would also see the ‘Blues’ reach the showpiece event for the 15th time – only Arsenal (21) and Manchester United (20) can better this.

Chelsea’s last defeat away from Stamford Bridge came back in mid-January under the stewardship of Frank Lampard, but since Tuchel’s arrival, they’ve yet to lose on the road (W7, D2). They impressively secured six clean sheets in that sequence whilst restricting their opponents to just a single goal in the other three games.

After UEFA Champions League success in midweek, the quadruple remains a real possibility for Manchester City who have not lost any of their three meetings with Chelsea at the new Wembley Stadium (W2, D1). The Premier League leaders have also won nine of their previous 11 FA Cup semi-final matches, although it might play on Pep Guardiola’s mind that his side has been eliminated at this stage in two of his four campaigns in charge.

As is often the case, form is on the side of the ‘Citizens’ with last week’s league defeat to Leeds the only blemish across their previous eight competitive matches. Intriguingly, they netted exactly two goals in each of the last five victories within that sequence.

Players to perform: League minutes have been sparse, but Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham has enjoyed his FA Cup outings, netting a competition high four goals so far. Primed for a final swan song, departing Sergio Agüero has scored six goals in his ten appearances at Wembley for Manchester City – including one against Chelsea in 2013.

Hot stat: Guardiola is unbeaten in all five managerial H2H meetings with Tuchel (W3, D2).

Prediction: Chelsea [2] vs [1] Man City
