Leicester vs Crystal Palace Premier League

Only twice in their history have Leicester City recorded a better return after 32 top-flight rounds than they’ve managed this season (W18, D5, L9), and subsequently third place and Champions League football next term is now theirs to lose. Indeed their average of 1.81 goals scored per Premier League (PL) game at this stage is even higher than their famous 2015/16 PL winning campaign!

Despite that, their ten-game PL home form leaves a lot to be desired (W5, D1, L4), although their last four league fixtures at the King Power Stadium vs sides situated 13th or below did see Leicester secure a handicap beating HT/FT win ‘to nil’. Promising stuff, albeit dampened by the fact the ‘Foxes’ have scored just once before HT across the previous 12 home H2Hs (W6, D2, L4).

Although not yet mathematically safe, Crystal Palace look secure and set for a ninth successive season in England’s top tier, and their five-game form reflects that (W1, D2, L2). However after defeat last time out, the ‘Eagles’ have now fallen to ten HT/FT losses this season – accounting for 76.92% of their PL defeats in 2020/21 – already more than they racked up at the end of the last three campaigns.

Subsequently Palace start as rank outsiders here, despite a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture. However, after netting just one opening goal across their last nine competitive road trips (W2, D2, L5), defying the odds will be extremely hard, especially as the starting match favourites is unbeaten in 77.42% of Palace’s PL fixtures this term.

Players to watch: In-form Kelechi Iheanacho has scored 11 goals across Leicester’s last eight fixtures, and was their first goal scorer on six occasions during that run. Meanwhile, Palace’s Wilfried Zaha scored the opener in the reverse fixture, one of four PL match openers he’s netted this season.

Hot stat: Eleven of the last 12 H2H goals were scored during the second half.

Prediction: Leicester [3] vs [0] Crystal Palace
