Wolves vs Burnley Premier League

Although they have little to play for, Wolves have won their previous two Premier League (PL) matches and could win three in a row here for the first time since June 2020. However regardless of the result don’t expect fireworks, given that six of their previous eight PL matches produced under 2.5 goals.

Despite the recent upturn in form, Nuno Espírito Santo’s men are 11 points worse off than what they were at this stage of last season. That could have been different had they managed to break the deadlock more regularly though, as they’re undefeated across the nine PL matches in which they scored first (W8, D1). Two of those winning fixtures came across their previous four home league games (L2).

Burnley are still fighting for PL survival, yet recent form wouldn’t suggest it and another defeat here would make it four in a row for the first time since October. Furthermore, with this being a Sunday fixture, history is against them. They’ve lost seven of their eight Sunday games this season (W1) and of all clubs to have played at least 40 Sunday games in PL history, Burnley have the lowest win rate (17%).

If ‘Clarets’ manager Sean Dyche is looking for positives, then his side’s solid competitive H2H record of one defeat in nine against Wolves is certainly a big one (W4, D4). However, even with that record, the visitors have drawn a blank in four of their previous six trips to Molineux Stadium.

Players to score: After a run of 35 PL games without a goal or assist, Wolves’ Adama Traoré has now scored (one) or assisted (two) in each of his previous three appearances. Another player improving is Burnley’s Matěj Vydra, netting three goals in his last six league appearances – as many as he managed in his previous 53.

Hot streak: Burnley have conceded 2+ goals in their previous three PL games, they’ve not done so in four since March 2019.

Prediction: Wolves [1] vs [0] Burnley
