Wolves vs Sheff Utd. Premier League

Victory last time out ended a dire five-game winless run (D2, L3) and surely quelled any lingering relegation worries amongst Wolverhampton Wanderers fans. However the fact remains that only opponents and bottom-side Sheffield United (24) have conceded first on more occasions than Wolves (20) this Premier League (PL) campaign, although only two sides have picked up more points than Wolves when doing so (W3, D4, L13).

Despite their clear ‘comeback-ability’, Wolves’ last four competitive home games were won by the side scoring first (W1, L3). Whilst strong favourites to take the spoils here, only two other teams possess a lower win-rate as home league favourites than Wolves so far (35.48%), including losses in three of their previous four such games (W1).

The season can’t finish soon enough for Sheffield who could be mathematically relegated here. The ‘Blades’ have lacked a cutting edge and subsequently sit just three points better off than the worst-ever PL side did after 31 rounds. Damningly, Sheffield have also conceded 2+ goals in all three PL games since the appointment of Paul Heckingbottom.

The picture looks even bleaker for Sheffield away, and whilst their sole PL road win came at Manchester United, they’ve scored just once in 556-minutes of competitive away play since. Despite that inability to score or keep a clean sheet, the majority of Sheffield’s PL road defeats came by just a single-goal margin (61.54%).

Players to score: Nippy wideman Adama Traoré has contributed to two of Wolves’ last three goals (one goal, one assist), his first two goal involvements of the season. The few chances Sheffield usually get often fall to David McGoldrick (six goals) – he’s scored at least twice as many as any other squad player, which reflects in his club-high 1.8 shots per match average.

Hot stat: Heckingbottom managed sides have picked up just four of a possible 15 points vs Wolves (W1, D1, L3).

Prediction: Wolves [1] vs [0] Sheff Utd.
