Week 9 of the football pools and Week 3 of the Premier League should see some close ties at both ends of the table. Local pride will be at stake in the Championship with what should be entertaining derby matches in both Lancashire and Yorkshire this weekend. We’ve looked through the fixtures and provided head-to-head statistics for five matches we think have the potential to end in a score draw.
1 – Arsenal vs Brighton
This should be classic as undefeated Arsenal play Brighton at home this weekend. Brighton is above Arsenal in the Premier League on goals scored so this should be a close match as both sides look to maintain their great start to the season.
Brighton managed an impressive 2-1 win against Manchester United last week. Arsenal also managed a 2-0 win against Aston Villa away at Villa Park last weekend.
Arsenal won a comfortable 3-0 when they played Brighton at the AMEX Stadium in April this year. They will find it more difficult this time around even at home. Brighton will be hoping new signing Matt O’Riley will be able to make an immediate impact this weekend.

4 – Everton vs Bournemouth
Everton were comfortable 3-0 winners against Doncaster in the League Cup this week but will find Bournemouth a much more difficult prospect. Bournemouth narrowly lost a late goal to West Ham in their League Cup tie on Wednesday night.
Bournemouth drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest in their opening weekend and 1-1 against Newcastle last weekend so will be hoping to avoid another draw this weekend.
Everton in contrast have lost both of their opening fixtures and will be aiming for a much better result in front of their home fans at Goodison Park.

11 – Burnley vs Blackburn
Blackburn lost at home to fellow Lancashire side Blackpool in the League Cup on Tuesday evening and will be looking for a much better result in another Lancashire derby away to Burnley.
Wolves were comfortable 2-0 winners against Burnley in the League Cup game on Wednesday evening. Burnley will be hoping to bounce back from their midweek defeat when they face Blackburn this weekend at Turf Moor.
Burnley are only 1 point behind Blackburn in the Championship and have scored more goals Blackburn so far. It may be early in season but both teams will be looking to maintain their positions or better and try and push for promotion this season.

15 – Leeds vs Hull City
It is West v East Yorkshire this weekend as Hull travel to Elland Road in what should be an entertaining local derby. Leeds beat fellow Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday in the Friday night match last week and will be hoping for the same this weekend.
Hull have drawn all three of their opening matches and a win against Leeds would give them a much-needed boost to the season.
The last time the two sides met back in April this year, Crysencio Summerville scored a late penalty for Leeds. They won’t be able to call on Summerville this time following his summer move to West Ham, but Leeds will still be looking for a victory in front of their home fans this time around.

3 Leeds Wins

35 – AFC Wimbledon vs Fleetwood
Fleetwood Town’s Cod Army will be looking for an away win this weekend when they travel to south-west London to face AFC Wimbledon. Fleetwood managed a 0-0 draw against high flying Gillingham last week and are only a point behind AFC Wimbledon in League Two.
AFC Wimbledon won away at Cheltenham last week and caused one of the shocks of the League Cup this week by knocking out Premier League Ipswich. They will be hoping to continue their impressive run for their home fans this weekend.
The last time the two sides met was back in April 2022 in League One when the result was a 1-1 draw. This could be one to watch for a draw this weekend too with not much between the two sides at this early stage of the season.
