The Premier League 2022-23 season is done and dusted, but there is still plenty of footballing action from around the world to fill the gap. This weekend an all-Manchester FA Cup final may take more than 90-minutes to decide, while some of the top tiers from across Europe wrap up their campaigns. We’ve looked through the games and provided recent form and head-to-head statistics for five fixtures we think have the potential to end in a draw.
Man City v Man Utd.
Manchester City and Manchester United meet for the FA Cup final at Wembley. City won 6-3 in their Premier League meeting at the Etihad in October, United won 2-1 at Old Trafford in January.
With the Champions League final on the horizon, Premier League champions Manchester City are gunning for treble silverware. Their final Premier League game of the season ended in their 1-0 defeat at Brentford last weekend, ending the Citizens’ 25-match unbeaten run.
Manchester United are looking for another piece of silverware this season after winning the EFL Cup final back in February. The Red Devils ended their Premier League campaign with four straight victories. They came from behind to beat Fulham 2-1 at Old Trafford on the final day.
168 League Encounters
50 Man City wins
66 Man Utd wins
52 Draws
Osasuna v Girona
Osasuna and Girona meet for their final La Liga game of the season with a Europa Conference League play-off spot on the line. The reverse fixture in October finished 1-1.
Osasuna are in 7th, but level on points with 8th place Athletic Bilbao. Osasuna were beaten 2-1 at Getafe last weekend, but have won four of their last five matches at home.
Girona are 9th and just 1-point off their hosts. They are winless in their last four matches, but have drawn with Real Sociedad (2-2) and Celta Vigo (1-1) in their last two away games.
10 Encounters (since 2004)
2 Osasuna wins
3 Girona wins
5 Draws
Villarreal v Atletico Madrid
On the final day in La Liga, Villarreal are assured a 5th place finish and Atletico Madrid will finish at least 3rd. Three of the last five meetings between these teams has ended in a draw, but Villarreal were 2-0 winners in the reverse fixture this season.
Villarreal’s six-match unbeaten run ended in a 2-1 defeat at Rayo Vallecano last weekend. They’ve won their last four home games, but only managed a clean sheet in one.
Only a win will do if Atletico Madrid want to finish ahead of city rivals Real Madrid in the runners-up spot. Atletico have only lost one of their last seven matches, but were held to a 3-3 draw at relegated Espanyol in their last away game.
43 Encounters (since 1998)
15 Villarreal wins
15 Atletico Madrid wins
13 Draws
Roma v Spezia
Roma and Spezia play out their final Italian Serie A game of the 2022-23 season. Tammy Abraham scored the second goal in Roma’s 2-0 win in the reverse fixture in January.
Roma will come into this after their Europa League final against Sevilla in Budapest. They are winless in their last seven Serie A matches (3L, 4D).
Spezia will want all 3-points to avoid relegation. They are one place above the drop zone, but level on points with Verona below them. Only Salernitana have drawn more than Spezia’s 13 stalemates in the Italian top-flight this season.
6 Encounters (since 2015)
4 Roma wins
0 Spezia wins
2 Draws
Nice v Lyon
There’s little to play for when Nice host Lyon on the final day in the French Ligue 1. Alexandre Lacazette equalised for Lyon with an 89th minute penalty for the reverse fixture to finish 1-1 back in November.
Nice have only lost one of their last five matches and came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 visiting Montpellier last weekend.
In-form Lyon have won four of their last five matches and have scored 13 goals across those victories. They go on the road after back-to-back home wins over Monaco (3-0) and Reims (3-1).
56 Encounters (since 1989)
13 Nice wins
29 Lyon wins
14 Draws
